After talking with them and with the local communities, and thanks to an idea from the Engineering Institute of Patan, we’ve started the Shelter project on the view of the upcoming rainy season. We were excited about the project, because in this way we did not only respond to a first request for stable houses during the monsoon period, but also because we know we were obtaining three more important objectives: 1) provide value: materials that we used to construct these shelters are recyclable and reusable for future use to build bigger houses, barns and shelters for animals; 2) it involved community group work during construction; 3) it helped to stimulate the local economy, because all materials have been bought in Nepal. Amidst this desert it seemed the realization of a dream.
